Quality Backlinks Vs Quantity Backlinks
Backlink is a very well known and popular technique in Off-page SEO. Backlink is the link coming to a web page through another web page. It is also known as inbound links or incoming links.
General methods of link building are directory submission, article submission, press-release submission, blogging, etc. Many SEO companies provide the service of link building on monthly basis. E.g. 20 directory and article submission per month. I am not going in detail of directory or article submission, as I assume that the readers of this blog are already aware of these terms.
There are thousands of business and article directories on world wide web. Many SEO companies blindly submit their client’s website to these directories to achieve more and more number of backlinks.
But, the question is that is it worth?
Why not? We have read that the more and more backlinks improve the google pagerank of a web page.
Yes, but not absolutely.
Before starting my answer, I want you to explain that how PageRank algorithm work. See below figure.
As you can see in the above figure, Page C has a higher PageRank than Page E, even though there are fewer links to C. The reason is that the one link to C comes from an important page and hence is of high value. The method is very simple. Assume that B is a wikipedia page which comes on first place in google for a keyword. As we all know, that wikipedia pages always have high PageRank due to many backlinks coming to those pages. So, now if that wiki page contains a link to an external wep page, then the chances of reaching that web page is very high. So, the google will mark is at important page and rank it high.
So, it proves that the quality of backlink is more important than the quantity.
So, my suggestion is to choose some top ranked directories, and submit your wep pages there in category best matches with your page.
